When is Criminal season 2 released on Netflix? Launch date, cast, trailer and more

Posted on September 3, 2020 by admin

We’ve not got long to wait at all, with the new series confirmed to be starting on Wednesday, September 16 on Netflix.
While the first season dropped with three international editions, only the UK series has been renewed for the second season for the time being.
However, series creator Jim Field Smith has expressed an interest in continuing the French, Spanish and German versions at a later date.
As well as our returning detectives, each episode of Criminal focuses on one particular suspect who guest stars.
Season two has attracted some A-Listers to take part, with Kit Harington leading the latest cohort in his first major television role since Game of Thrones.
Elsewhere, Oscar-nominated actress Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda, The Hollow Crown), Catastrophe’s Sharon Horgan, and The Big Bang Theory star Kunal Nayyar will also feature.
Much like season one, season two of the Netflix hit will have the same intense focus on interrogators and suspects in the interview room.
Field Smith and co-creator George Kay have previously spoken out about how the claustrophobic format of the show is designed to hold a mirror up to a viewers’ own prejudice.
“It’s incredibly freeing because there’s no car chase, or crime scene,” Kay explained. “It’s actually about everything else. How someone reacts when someone puts a photo down in front of them, or when the air conditioning in the room goes off. It becomes about the environment and the human interaction between the cops and deceives.
“Normally what we’ve done in a crime drama would be one scene in a crime drama, but we’ve spun it into the whole show. The twists have to come from something other than finding a piece of evidence, it has to come from human behaviour. The rise of an eyebrow, the change in breathing. These things that seem so small, suddenly become vast in the show.”
The trailer for the latest series was released early in September. Scroll up to the top of this article, or watch it here.
Criminal starts on Wednesday, September 16 on Netflix.
