‘It’s not good enough!’ – Kevin De Bruyne responds to Man City’s Champions League exit to Lyon

Posted on August 30, 2020 by admin

Kevin De Bruyne remarked “it’s not good enough” after Manchester City crashed out in the Champions League quarter-finals at the hands of Lyon.
A sluggish start immediately put City on the back foot thanks to Maxwel Cornet’s opener and despite De Bruyne’s equaliser, Lyon rallied lated with a Moussa Dembele double sealing their progress.
It was a similar heartache for City and De Bruyne refused to make excuses, even bemoaning the initial set-up, which differed from their usual, attack-minded approach.
“Yes, it’s the same stuff,” De Bruyne told BT Sport. “In the first half it wasn’t good enough. We know that. We started slow.
“In the second half we played really well. Had chances. But then the 2-1, and 3-1 ends the game. It’s a shame to go out that way.
“I have no idea [about the VAR decision], I’ve not seen it back, whatever they decided, they decide. I’m not going to blame that, we should’ve done better. I’ll have to look back.
“The second half we played well and put them under pressure, playing offensively – like we normally do.
“The game was open, they didn’t really create except the two goals, but it’s not good enough, that’s it.”
De Bruyne then admitted he will switch focus to personal matters, with his wife expecting their child.
“It’s time to go home,” he added. “It’s been a long season. My wife is expecting any moment, so I have some things to focus on personally.”
